Exposing the Rascals in our Government

Another Gas Tax Proposal
A couple of rascals in our state legislature are brazen enough to appear enthusiastically proud of House Bill 3106, which they drafted. Under the guise of road repairs these two are very excited about raising your state gas tax by 25%.

Just when these two should be searching out ways to lower our taxes and spend their constituents money more responsibly they found an angle to raise taxes. If you haven't guessed by now Monte doesn't buy the old "needed road repair" argument. Ten or twelve years ago the state legislature approved an extra 5 to 10 dollars per vehicle license just for road repairs.

Furthermore, Monte didn't appreciate the way the article was written by Doug Fox. His article relays a tone that the two representative's proposed tax hike is exactly what we need. Even the title, "Highway Tax Could Help Motorists and Teachers", exudes the liberal leanings of the reporter. So much for objective reporting. He threw the conservatives a bone, however, by including comments from motorists that didn't like it either. Monte speculates Mr. Fox probably couldn't find many motorists that were in favor of such a blatant money grab.

The proposed tax increase is so robust that it will help fund a teachers health insurance program. Doesn't every property owner in the state already do that? Monte just doesn't buy it! This reeks of the tax and spend mentality that some of our government leaders love.

The two rascals represent Athens (Clyde Alexander) and Waco (Kip Averitt). Hopefully these two cities will have different representatives after the next election.

Clyde Alexander has email (Clyde.Alexander@house.state.tx.us). If you feel as strongly as Monte does about this issue, email this Representative and let him know how you feel. While you're at it find your own state rep and let him/her know too. The link on the left will take you right to him or her.

Kip Averitt doesn't have email but his snail mail addresses are:
