DANGER

WILL ROBINSON! The lake is REAL low!

Monte and his 12 year old son, Ryan fished Lake Ray Roberts
on Thursday evening. We found a few sand bass and many, many hazards. The lake is very low and very dangerous. We hunted the largemouth bass in sand branch cove for about an hour with no luck. So we tied off to the brush pile out from the RV camping area of the Isle Duboise unit. Ryan caught a couple of perch there. Then we saw several boats gathering out in the middle of the lake, out from sand branch. We joined them and found the sandies schooling. As we approached I couldn't figure out why there were waves breaking over a piece of driftwood. Good thing my paranoia kicked in and I shut down the boat because that was no driftwood. It was a stump in 6 inches of water!! Yep, right out in the middle of the lake.

The sand bass were pushing shad up on this hump that is just under the surface. The birds were workin the shad there too. Have'nt seen that in a while. We only caught three, however. They were moving all over the place. The deckboat that was continually running right through the surfacing schools didn't help either. (Sorry - working mids and am a bit grumpy)
Ryan caught 2 on a chrome 1/2 oz rattle trap and Monte caught one on a chartreuse little george.

We are starting to seriously consider a trip to Texoma soon. We had such good luck with the stripers last
December we can hardly wait until the fish get into their winter pattern.

See you out there.
