Fishing

December 22, 1999
We 14lb 7oz Monster Striper went back to Texoma again. It paid off too! Seth, Monte's oldest caught this behemoth that weighed 14lb 7oz. It was 32 inches long. Monte was very pleased. We had lost several fish on recent trips because we kept forgetting to put the net in the boat. This time, however, we had the net and landed the biggun.

The whopper was caught in the Big Mineral arm of the lake, off the island at the mouth of Walnut Creek. The birds were swarming and we inched our way up under them. It bit a 1oz white sassy shad that was 4 inches long. Monte was using a chartruese sassy shad on a 1oz jig but not catching much. He soon switched to white and started catching them too. Seth and Will with the giant Texoma Striper We met some other anglers at the spot and they had caught 52 stripers that day. We don't know how much longer this great striper fishing will last so we will be headed back to Texoma soon. But Monte's boat trailer needs more repairs before another road trip. The springs on one side broke a few months ago. Those were replaced, now the springs on the other side are in need of replacement.

If you are suffering from fishing fever and unable to do any good on your home lake, consider a road trip to Texoma. The locals say this is the time of year to catch a whopper of a Striper.

Update - December 23
Monte, 12lb Monster Striper Ryan, and Seth ventured to Texoma once again. And once again we got into the stripers. Ryan got lucky with this 12 pound monster. We caught around 20 in all. We found them in the Big Mineral arm of the lake. They seemed to want the white sassy shads this time. They would not hit the glo sassy shads. It didn't take long for all of us to switch to the white bait.
