October 24, 1998 Got John Francis up super early and did some live bait bassin on Ray Roberts. Ryan and I invited friend and colleague John Francis who caught more fish than Ryan and I combined. We launched at the marina and tossed around the throw net for shad. Once we had a bucket-full of bait fish we took a cross-lake boat ride to the weed beds next to Wolf Island. It was a crisp morning and the air was cold, which was a welcome change from the oppressive heat. We found the edge of the weed beds, anchored off and started catchin em.

wasn't a fish every cast or anything. In fact, for a while the fishing seemed kinda slow. But by the end of the trip we had lost count. We estimate between 13 and 15 fish wound up visiting us in the boat during our 4 hours of fishing. We lost just as many due to wimpy hook sets, clever fish, etc...

The largest was a three and a half pounder caught by John. He caught it just after Ryan had landed a three pounder. It was nearly a double! I caught two nice sized catfish. Monte
Threw them back too. Just wanted to fish, not clean fish.

Several of the bass had been caught before. Ryan caught one that had a plastic worm still on the hook that was half way down the fishes gullet. Must have broken off a fellow angler, I guess. He was still eating though, cause he also had our big shad in his mouth too! I'm not sure if catching the fish was more fun than catching the shad. It is pretty cool to throw the net out and come up with a mess of shad.
