Monte Galveston Vacation - Fall '99 and the family took another trip to Galveston last week during the kid's fall break from school. It was great! The first item of business after checking into the hotel was to check out the pool. The water was REAL cold. But two year old Sidney jumped right in so the rest had to follow.

The men managed to get some fishing in on the Texun II. The feds had completely closed down the red snapper fishing so any red snapper had to be thrown back. Even the one Monte caught that was bitten in half by a blue fish. Monte thought that was pretty cool. It happened to Seth too. About the only species legal to keep was Atlantic Spade Fish which put up a good fight. They looked like angel fish to us in-landers.

There
Galveston Vacation - Fall '99 was plenty of chum this trip. Half the boat came up seasick due to the large swells offshore. Not sure if the entire gulf was chopped up by the Tropical Depression near the Yucatan or not. Some people never wet a hook. Our hats are off to the others, though, that still fished between heaves. Monte and the boys were wearing the prescription patch behind our ears and were free from the urge to "holler New York".

Will caught a nice looking gafftop which looked like a catfish but with a spear for a dorsal fin. Sarah decided not to go fishing but she was there at the docks to pose with a big redfish someone else caught. No kingfish or bonita this trip. The crew said they move way out this time of year. We caught some on our trip last spring and it was real fun.

The
Galveston Vacation - Fall '99 family did alot of things together too. There were plenty of waves to surf at the beach. The street trolly took the family to the strand which is a section downtown that has been restored with all kinds of shops and restaurants. One of the restaurants offered a program entitled "The Great Storm". This was an extremely interesting account of the Hurricane of 1900 that killed more than 6000. 2000 were never accounted for. After that the city of Galveston installed the seawall and raised the island 10 feet. How'd they do that?
