May 1, 1998 It is always Ryan with a 1 pounder fun to put a kid on the fish. Ryan, my nine year old and I went to Ray Roberts and had a great time. Here he is with the first fish of the day. He caught this 1 pound bass on a rattle trap. I forget the name of the color but it was dark red with green metalic flakes all over it. Sadly, this bait was lost on the very next cast. That just gives us an excuse to go back to Walmart or Acadamy.

After fishing that hole out with no more luck we Sandbass off main lake point
decided to follow Jake Jacoby's lead and troll for the Sand Bass off the main lake point. Almost immediately one hit my white Model A crank bait. I figured that was the bait they would be looking for so Ryan & I switched poles for our next run. The next sandie hit my pole again. This one bit a shad colored Model A. Ryan posed with these fish at the ramp as we were headed home.

We found out the hard Ryan and a crappie
way about the cliff that goes from 30 feet deep to 1 foot deep almost instantly. As I was trying to maneuver the boat to deeper water Ryan came up with this crappie. It hit the white Model A in 1 foot of water. Perhaps they are finally spawning. We didn't stop and try to catch any more but maybe we should have because trolling didn't produce any more fish.

Around 6:30 we decided to Ryan with a Buzz Bait Bass
head to Johnson Branch Cove to hunt the Black Bass again. Ryan caught this one as he dragged a white buzz bait over some thick grass in about 2 feet of water. Ryan is without a doubt the best fisherman in the family. He catches fish most every time he goes. He usually catches more fish and bigger fish than anyone in the boat (including me). The next Bill Dance? We'll see.

UPDATE - May 2, 1998 Seth, my 13 year old Seth and Monte with some Sandies and I went back out to Ray Bob Saturday evening. Seth had a field day with the sand bass. All but one of these fish were caught by Seth. We caught most of them at the big concrete thing next to the dam. I don't know what it is called (I assume its the water discharge) but it was holding some fish. I caught a couple of black bass on the shady side of it with a chrome Model-A. Then Seth caught sand bass after sand bass on the sunny side of it jigging a chrome slab off the bottom.
