Monte, Seth, Seth catching a whopper? Nope, just fighting a stump! and Ryan fished Lake Texoma on Tuesday evening. The weather was great. Little wind, air tempatures in the low 80's, and water temps in the mid 70's. The fishing, however, was not great!

We launched at Cedar Mills Marina and headed straight to the middle of Big Mineral. We found a school of fish near the bottom in 40 feet of water. They wouldn't bite anything we threw at them! We tried jigging with Prune Picker Slabs but the fish just were not interested. We The Old Man saw a couple of boats catching small stripers trolling so we did some trolling too. We were not as lucky as our fellow fishermen. We couldn't quite make out what they were fishing with. We suspect they were using deep diving red fin shads which, of course, we can't find. We had shallow running red fin shads but no deep diving ones.

So Ryan protecting the top of his head from those damaging UV rays with his cool shades Monte decided we ought to pull out the down riggers that came with the boat. We have never used such a device before and it took about 20 minutes for Monte to figure out how the fishing pole line attaches to the down rigger line. Once that hurdle was cleared, we needed to install the down riggers to the installed mounts on the back deck. Monte's pea brain just couldn't figure that one out. When Monte first purchased the boat his friend Rock told him they just slide right on the mount but Monte never figured it out.

Time was not wasted on that little bit of madness though, because the boys were trolling all the while. Nothing to show for their efforts, however. We hit several spots jigging anywhere we spotted a mass of fish on the graph but never even got a hit.

Who knows where Monte can get some trolling lures that work on Texoma?
