Another good day
on Fairfield Lake. We hit the lake around 2:00 and didn't get a
bite until around 5:00. This one weighed about 2 pounds according to
rock's suspected inaccurate scales. It was 17.5 inches long and was
the first fish I have ever caught with a carolina rig.
Randy (Roy's son) caught one too. We found them on a spot that I
have seen many people jigging through the years.
It is a drop off
from 8 feet to 20 feet off of a secondary point. This one weighed 2
pounds and was 18 inches long. Both Bass bit a red bloodline ringworm.
This one had a beat up tail. Must have been fanning a nest, but it was
pretty deep. Rock was the one getting blanked this time. Usually he
catches most of the fish while the rest of us watch with envy. Randy and
I couldn't help but laugh at him.
Around dusk we moved to the hot water discharge where something was
schooling beyond the second
barrier, far out of reach from any would-be
cast. We settled in next to other boats that were catching redfish after
redfish. We baited up with some shrimp and joined them. I caught the
first one (again) which weighed in at a controversial
(Rock's scales again) 4.25 pounds and was 25 inches long. I also hooked
up with two other good ones but my cheap line ($1.50/1000 yd) did me
wrong and they broke off.
The last fish
of the day was caught by Rock. This got him in a better
mood. This Red also hit a shrimp and was 24.5 inches long weighing 4.25
pounds.
Not a bad day on the lake at all. I have already been to Academy to
upgrade my line. If you want to catch some nice redfish anchor off
at the bouys of the hot water discharge and feed em some shrimp. They're
in there and they're hungry.
