July 5, 1998 Had to go get the 4 Pound Bass Suburban out of the shop in Fairfield. It is still broken. The mechanic said he couldn't fix it and to "come get it".

The silver lining, though was this baby right here. I caught her on Fairfield Lake in 20 feet of water, sitting right in the bottom of a channel next to that same ledge on my favorite secondary point. She bit a Carolina Rigged bubble gum/purple worm. It weighed in at 4 pounds and was 21.5 inches long.

After that we headed Top water Bass
to the back of the Ski Cove where Roy caught this 18 inch 2 pounder. He used a Pop-R topwater bait to fool this one. Ryan, my youngest son, was with us but didn't even get a nibble. I will try to put him on the white bass later this week. I took a polaroid of some white bass that we caught on Cedar Creek Lake last week but I can't find it. I think it is in that bag-of-bolts Suburban of ours. I will post it up on the website if I ever find it. Anyway, I will probably attempt to put Ryan on them at Lake Grapevine on thursday.

After Roy caught Not goosed just excited
his second bass on the topwater bait I switched from the worm to the Pop-R. I didn't even have to twitch the bait. As soon as the lure hit the water this one hit it hard. I was still a bit excited in this picture. There are many thrilling things about catching fish but there is nothing like witnessing a bass hit a topwater.

All in all Roy and I caught 4 keepers (18" or better) and one 16 incher. Five fish for a couple hours fishing aint bad. I was pretty surprised too. The water was 94 degrees and I figured we would get blanked. You just never know when the fish are gonna bite.
