     March 22, 1999
I

have been on vacation for the last 10 days or so. And we have been fishing like crazy! On March 14 we headed to Athens, TX for a 3 day retreat. We visited the
Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center and saw the 100 pound catfish that was recently caught with 16 pound test line. We also viewed a scuba diver feeding fish in a very large tank.

But the highlight of the visit to the hatchery was the trout fishing. We caught fish after fish and had a ball! We finished out our mini vacation in Tyler. We visited the zoo, swam in the indoor pool at the hotel, and shopped at the mall.

When we got home a couple of my sons and I headed for Ray Roberts. We had high hopes of landing many big Black Bass in Wolf Creek. But the fish had other ideas. Once we were convinced we
were not gonna get a bite we went hunting the sand bass. We immediately found three boats huddled together in 45 foot water south of Wolf Island. We joined them and started catching
sandies one after the other jigging chrome slabs off the bottom.

trip was on Saturday March 20. Our Scout troop camped in the primative camping area of the Isle Dubois unit on Lake Ray Roberts which is right next to the boat ramp. It was very cold and very windy but everyone that went managed to catch fish. We were trolling White Model-A's in Johnson Cove again. One of the younger scouts announced it was the best campout he had ever been on. Now that makes you feel pretty good! It is always fun to put kids on fish. See you out there.
